If you discover that one of your PowerPoint files has been damaged, don’t worry! All hope is not lost. It is possible to repair damaged or corrupted PowerPoint files so that they’re back to working order without much work at all.
Microsoft
It may be odd, but in this article we’re going to avoid using Microsoft’s methods of “recovering” a corrupted PPT file. The reason being is that in many cases, the troubleshooting instructions listed on the Microsoft website are too clunky and unwieldy to be of any use. And unfortunately, in many cases the solutions just don’t work. At best they simply create a new PowerPoint file from an old, damaged one, and make it so that your corrupted file just opens, not works the same way that it did before.
Kernel for PowerPoint Repair
Hopefully it doesn’t seem like a product promotion (because it isn’t), but a program called “Kernel” by a company called “Nucleus Technologies” is the best way to go when looking for a way to repair PowerPoint files. The program takes corrupted files that you may have and runs them through its repair service to retrieve as many of the slides and as much of the data as possible.
- In some cases, the slides may be all that’s able to be recovered. Because deleted photos or misplaced graphics that are used in a PowerPoint presentation can sometimes go missing, when PowerPoint attempts to recover a presentation, the images may get lost. Instead, all that will be recovered are the core files and text of the presentation as opposed to the theme and graphics you had attached to the file.
Standard Mode: Within the Kernel program, you’ll have the option for “Standard mode.” While you may not know what type of damage has been done to your PPT file, standard mode fixes all types of major errors of the file and can almost restore things to brand new. Standard mode works best if you have the latest version of PowerPoint installed and are trying to repair a PPT file from the same version of PowerPoint that you have installed on your computer.
Note: In order to enjoy the full benefits of the software, you must purchase the full version. The trial version of the software simply allows you to recover PPT files and preview what the final, repaired version will look like. This allows you to see if the program can actually recover your PowerPoint presentation or not. If it successfully manages to restore the files, you can purchase the full version to be able to save them to your hard drive to work on.
